This is so cool! I’ve gotta have one. Or 10. Maybe I should do my car in this theme with the big flares and stripes?

My wife (who has better taste than me) and I have both admired how nice pre-1980 cars look in that light yellow. I’m not always a big fender flare fan, but with that color and the maroon stripes, it’s a win. There’s a group of us in Northern CO who get together for drives in early Z’s and roadsters. I love my 280 Z, but the roadsters are the classiest of our group, hands down.

So cool! I haven’t bought a hot wheels in years, but now that they’ve done a few Japanese classics, I might have to start again.

That yellow is a classy colour, and I totally agree about the stripes and the flares. I am dying to get my roadster on the... road. Z cars have a special place in my heart, E Type and Porsche destroyers.

You’re making great progress with your roadster! I enjoy your updates. I know you’ll get it done. How do you eat an elephant? One bite at a time. It took me 6 years to get my Z “finished” and back on the road. Worth every night. One nice thing with CO is all the car types mingle. We get lots of Porsches at our Z track days. Holy crap is that fun. Wish some E Types would show up. There are a few around here, they just need to get out of the white-carpeted garages for some fun.

Thanks! I’m glad that people are enjoying watching me go insane, haha. My Dad used to race his Roadster against his buddies in the 80s, when his car was also kinda ratty, he used to race against the E-Types and Aston Martins, and none of them would have the balls to drive them, so my Dad would win all the time.

That’s a thing, isn’t it? Buying, building, or owning a hot car and then being too afraid to drive the damn thing? I understand a bit of caution, but really. One great sight at our track days: a V12 Vanquish and a Ferrari having a bit of full-tilt fun. No tasteless pushing or door-closing, just solid racing. No sheet metal was ever in danger, but the drivers and cars were really given the beans. Oh, the ones who think you’re insane never understood the game in the first place. Keep wrenching, be patient, and you’ll be in driver’s seat nirvana before you know it. Enjoy the ride.

You’ll want to start looking for these in the next month or so.
These are coming in the 2017 A-case, which should drop in September-October. When you go to a store (Walmart, Target, Toys-R-Us, etc...) flip a card over and look at the sequence of letters & numbers at the top. If it ends with ‘A’, that’s probably the right case and you should keep looking/digging (you’ll often see them in dump bins). If it ends with something else, keep checking other cards. Whatever you see the most of is probably the case they have out now. If it’s somewhere between L-Q, you should return to the store over the next few weeks.
Hot Wheels releases 15 different regular cases of mainlines (common cars) over the course of the year. They are lettered A-Q, excluding I and O as those are easily mistaken for numbers.
(Side note - if the letter code is red, it’s an international case...and I still haven’t figured those codes out yet.)
Happy hunting! I’ll be looking for this one, too.

Ah that feels good to hear. Exactly, what’s the point of building it if you don’t drive it?
